What's new?
Fjällräven Sheffield now open
Leading Swedish outdoor clothing and equipment brand, Fjällräven, have now opened their third UK brand store, right here in Sheffield - the shop now located on Charles Street.
Following over a decade of impressive growth in the UK, Fjällräven’s unique combination of unrelenting product functionality and timeless, Scandinavian design has proved popular with both outdoor and lifestyle consumers alike.
Yards Store now open
Independent men’s fashion retailer, Yards Store, is also now will open on Pinstone Street in Sheffield city centre, located next door to the new Fjällräven store just round the corner.
The store features a fusion of outdoor and heritage brands including And Wander, Ten C, Carhartt WIP, Gramicci, Hikerdelic, RRL, ST95, Hoka, Karhu, Clarks Originals and New Balance to name just a few.
New free Sheffield Connect bus service
From Monday 8 April bus users in Sheffield will be able to enjoy free journeys around the city centre in the comfort of a brand new, zero emission bus.
The Sheffield Connect service will be completely free service for everyone to use seven days a week across the core of the city centre. Stops are located within just a few minutes’ walk of the main active areas and the SC1 service links to tram and train services too.
The service will run every seven to eight minutes – so passengers can turn up and go, making their journeys quicker, cleaner and for free.
A new second route will also connect the Heart of the City to Castlegate and West Bar. It’s still free, zero-emission and will run every 20 minutes.
Opening date set for new Radisson Blu
Sheffield City Centre’s flagship Radisson Blu hotel, which boasts 154 rooms and a rooftop bar and restaurant, is due to open this Summer and a date has finally now announced.
Rooms at Sheffield’s new upper mid-scale Radisson Blu hotel, which is located between Burgess Street and Pinstone Street, are now available to book, with an open date set for 10 June 2024.
Pound's Park
This brand-new public space in the city centre brings greenery to urban surroundings and provides a new focal point for families to enjoy.
Located on the former fire station site off Rockingham Street, the play park features two large pyramid towers, stainless steel slides, climbing structures, playhouses, a seesaw, splash park features, wheelchair-accessible play equipment, and more.
Retail
Joining the likes of Monki and Weekday, cosy Danish brand Søstrene Grene have recently joined other well-loved businesses in the city centre bringing their popular homewares store to Cambridge Street.
Workspaces
A host of new workspaces are tempting more top talent into the city centre. 2,500 staff are already in place at Grosvenor House thanks to HSBC and law firm CMS.
On the horizon is contemporary workspace on the upper floors of Isaacs building, the award-nominated and super sustainable Elshaw House, and the unique small office space of Athol House.
Updated proposal for city centre travel plans
Connecting Sheffield: City Centre is set to create more space for people, make streets more attractive and link up the regeneration across Fargate, Heart of the City and The Moor.
The improvement scheme will make it easier to get around on foot, by bike or by public transport with wider footways, connected cycleways and more direct bus routes.
Updated proposals have now been announced, taking on board findings from consultation, as well as further engagement with groups affected by the proposals.

Cambridge Street Collective
Leah's Yard
The jewel in the crown of Heart of the City. This former collection of small industrial workshops – and a Grade II* listed building no less – is currently being transformed into a new social hub for creative independent businesses.
Renowned Sheffield artist, Pete McKee, is already on board as the first official tenant and will be moving his gallery into Leah's Yard – who’ll be next?
Radisson Blu - Pinstone Street
Back in 2020, international hotel brand, Radisson Blu, were selected by Sheffield City Council as the preferred hotel brand for its flagship Heart of the City II hotel, overlooking the Peace Gardens.
Four years later and we're now looking forward to the hotel opening later this year, complete with high-end rooftop bar and restaurant and stunning views over the city.
The Gaumont Building
The former Kingdom nightclub is now known as the Gaumont Building again, a nod to its past as a theatre. Lots of progress was made in 2023 and the red steel frame exterior has now been shed to reveal a contemporary look for the leisure venue. which will have leafy external ‘living walls’.
Bethel Chapel
Sandwiched between the prime developments on Cambridge Street, Bethel Chapel is a 15,000 sq.ft. space that is set to become a new live entertainment venue for the city, that will have a bar and cafe area on the first floor with roof terrace and balcony on the top floor.
What's happening to...?
Fargate
This historic high street is being transformed into a Fargate for the future!
Fargate's extensive redevelopment work is well underway, so while it might not look its best at the moment, it will definitely be worth the wait with new planting, lighting, seating, play features, and pocket parks, all being integrated.
The proposed social hub Event Central will also blend co-working and culture, including a live music venue.
Cole Store (former John Lewis building)
Set to be revamped by Urban Splash of Park Hill refurb fame, the old Cole Brothers building will become a place to meet, eat, and shop. Expect a new glass atrium and on-street dining, as well as workspaces, studios, a gym, and a pocket park.
Chapel Walk
Chapel Walk has a proud history as one of the city centre’s most-loved shopping streets and back in July, it was announced that £1.24 million would be awarded to local businesses to help further transform the street into a vibrant city centre destination.
Castlegate
As one of the most significant parts of Sheffield history, Castlegate’s regeneration is eagerly awaited. Plans include uncovering the River Sheaf, exposing parts of the original castle, wide open public space, a riverside park, play features, and space for events.
Transformation of the site, once home to centuries of market trading, is now officially underway, with the first phase of the work having started in January 2024 and expected to continue through to July.
West Bar
This £300m regeneration scheme spans 7 acres, providing almost 1 million sq. ft. of office, retail, leisure, hotel and living space, creating a new gateway into Sheffield City Centre.
The roundabout at West Bar is currently undergoing a transformation into Sheffield’s first Dutch-style roundabout. This will slow down traffic flow, prioritising and making it safer for pedestrians and cyclists.
Changes to travel in and around the city centre
Travelling to and around the city centre is being made easier and more attractive.
The Connecting Sheffield: City Centre scheme has various projects to improve walking, cycling, and public transport.
