Fancy trying out some of the Tour de Yorkshire route before the pros do? With the Steel Gravel Tour, now's your chance! Take part in this new for 2017 charity bike ride which celebrates the Tour de Yorkshire coming to Stocksbridge this year.
The event runs on Saturday 22 April, the week before the Tour de Yorkshire finishes in Fox Valley in Stocksbridge. Entries are now open so if you want to try your luck, enter here.
It's a freestyle, 70 km/44 mile route that's made up of gravel tracks and scenic country lanes. Ride any bike you like, from a road bike to a mountain bike, although a gravel, cyclocross, xc mountain bike or hybrid type bike will be the best option for the mix of terrain on route. Starting and finishing at Full Gas Bikes, you'll cover the ‘Stocksbridge loop’ section of the Tour de Yorkshire, including three of the four categorised climbs the professionals will be tackling.
Highlights include a yellow, blue and white-themed fancy dress competition with prizes from Cotic bikes and a woodland tea party en route.
The funds raised from the event will go to the Steel Valley Project, a countryside management charity based in Stocksbridge.
