Venture into the world of urban orienteering with South Yorkshire Orienteers. Whether you’re brand new to the sport or a regular orienteer already, a full set of urban event courses will be available for all abilities.
On Saturday 18 March, they'll be setting up camp at Centre in the Park, in Norfolk Heritage Park- one of the oldest parks in the country. There will be four courses for juniors and beginner adults in the park of differing length and difficulty, including a very easy short course for young kids. There will also be three urban orienteering courses for adults which will start in the park, but will extend to the surrounding area including the iconic Park Hill flats, the longest of which will offer fast, technical urban racing.
The beginners and under 16s course (white, yellow, orange and long orange) will remain in Norfolk Park, with the latter of these being run in conjunction with the Sheffield Schools Orienteering League Competition.
Whether you’re 5 or 75, all ages are welcome. Registration for courses will open at 1pm. You can start any time from 1pm - 3pm but the courses close at 3.30pm.
South Yorkshire Orienteers have over 200 members ranging in age from 5 to 85. There is a wide range of ability and experience within the club from beginners to elite orienteers, who represent Great Britain all over the world. They offer a friendly and informal welcome to the sport - supporting adult and junior beginners and more seasoned orienteers alike with coaching and a programme of regular events.
