Move More began as part of the legacy of the 2012 London Olympics, with the ambition for Sheffield to become the most active city in the UK by 2020. June is Move More month, meaning there are lots of events going on across the city and plenty of reasons for Sheffielders to get moving!
Move More is challenging as many residents of Sheffield to join in and clock up minutes. Just register on the website and start tracking your activity minutes. There's also an easy to use app, which means you can track your activity progress on the go, and contribute to the city's total. Last year, the project developed a ‘currency’ of the Move More Minute. Over 5000 people took part and recorded 6.5million minutes of activity.
Why not take a look at the campaign's activity finder to find an activity that suits you best? In there, you'll discover regular, free health walks all over the city. Each health walk is gentle enough that you won't need walking boots, lets you go at your own pace and lasts no longer than an hour. It's also a great way of meeting new people in the area.
If football's more your thing, why not take part in the Move More Steel City Derby where fans of United and Wednesday compete for the most activity minutes across the month? We're also running the workplace challenges and schoolyard challenges that worked so well last year, basing them around the Outdoor City themes of Run, Walk, Ride and Climb.
The aspiration is to prove we are the most active city in the UK by the Tokyo Olympics in 2020, so we are all in training! There's something for everyone, old or young, fast or slow, all abilities. We hope that as a city we’ll all support each other to take part in some way.
